Playdagogy

Because sports and games are great educational tools. Because every child has the right to leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities. Because sport is a source of solutions to meet our social stakes.

THE METHOD

Playdagogy is a tool of designed and developed by International PLAY since the beginning of 2000s. It uses sports games as educational support to raise awareness among children on sanitary, social and environmental stakes in a playful and sportive way.

A Playdagogy session takes place in 3 stages:

Stage 1: GAME WITHOUT THEME

The chil understands the rules, is committed in a driving mobilization and develops gaming strategies. The teacher delivers activities in a reassuring and playful framework.

Stage 2 : GAME WITH THEME

The child experiences feelings / sensations, experiments and questions. The teacher is a director. He places clues, symbols and raises the behavior which will be to discuss.

Stage3 : DISCUSSION

The child expresses himself, learns and assimilates the awareness messages. The teacher is the mediator and supports the notions included in the discussion.

"Through sport and games, Playdagogy sends educational messages in a more meaningful way. The student always understands better when he is an actor. "

Benoît, 5th grade teacher, Langevin Wallon School, Bonneuil-sur-Marne

Since 2015, PLAY International and the Ministry of Education signed an outline agreement and an approval as an additional association of the public education in France. The utility of Playdagogie is reputed for its success at school, the well-being of the children and the training of future citizens.

This commitment aims at displaying the Playdagogy method, in particular within the Primary Educational Networks.

“Everything began in 2015, when my school was chosen to make the PE teachers experience, on a voluntary basis, a kit of sessions on the girls-boys equality. With some colleagues, we volunteered, led by a curiosity on the device in question as much as on the way of dealing and to approach a significant problem in Mayotte, Where the local culture gives very different social roles depending on the sex. We thus received appropriate training before setting up the sessions of Playdagogy within our courses. The purpose of the game with theme, which can turn out very binding in terms of power of action, turned out to be very useful in order to strike up conversation about the students’ feelings, before establishing links with ‘real life’. It seems to me that, without claiming to be able to modify representations, the fact of eliciting reflection about these themes thanks to gaming by getting students to debate and discuss is already a leap for every educator, organizer or teacher.

Denis COUPAS, PE teacher for 18 years.

“This kit answers completely the orientations that we settled. It is going to allow the animation team animation to lean on a playful tool to debate with children and estimate their progress! But it is also going to allow the organizers to give meaning to the activity of the game.”

Sonia, headmistress of the centre Paul Eluard, Bobigny

CONSCIOUSNESS-RAISING THEMATICS & EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES IN FRANCE

Themes approached through Playdagogy divide into two main subjects: community life and citizenship (fight against discrimination, change in perspective about handicap, girls-boys equality as well as environmental protection) and health (benefits of physical activity and good nutrition).

Educational objectives are plentiful in France:

  • Discover yourself, learn to know and accept each other, trust each other to assert yourself.
  • Understand what others are going through, think and feel in order to have a better response and communicate better with others.
  • Take responsibility, commit and work in and for the collective.
  • Understand the importance of the notion of equality of rights, whether people are disabled, a girl or a boy.
  • Better identify discriminations and abuses in order to fight against them
  • Understand the importance of having a well-balanced diet in order to build healthy eating habits.
  • Understand the benefits of physical activity at a physiological, psychological, cognitive and social level in order to fight against physical inactivity.
  • Understand the function of sleep and its benefits to identify your own needs and adapt your habits
